Started My Next Song, Finally

So, I finally started recording my second song on Thursday, and am incredibly psyched.  Not much, just the core "loop" I’ll be using.  The song is called "Take A Stand". I wrote the lyrics back in April of this year one night, around 2:00 AM, while thinking about the cycles of abuse that can plague generations within a family, and how I’ve seen such cycles broken by people who decided to take a stand against them.

It’s one of the few times I’ve written lyrics before creating a melody, and the only time such a creation has resulted in a song I’ve taken to the next step.  Take A Stand is looking like it’s going to be an Indie rap-rock….think The Streets or something like that…  The music came to me a few weeks ago, and I’m hoping to move fast.

So far, I’ve got an acoustic guitar lick, a mandolin lick, a drum loop, and a bell loop.  We’ll see where it goes…maybe I’ll post the lyrics later this week (though I’m tweaking them as the song takes shape, so it could be a little early…).  That said, I’m away from home (and my project studio) for the next week…so no music for a few days at least.  But hey, at least it’s begun.

Also, what do you have for a mandolin? I’m thinking of branching out in that direction.

    Thanks, guys.

Jay – I’ve got a very basic mandolin that my wife bought on eBay…there’s no brand or label listed, it’s a pretty basic model; but I think you can get them pretty cheap on eBay, which may be a good way to start, initially.

By the way, if you do get one, be sure to read about how one strings and tunes a mandolin — I didn’t realize that the bridge could be moved around, and broke a couple strings in the process..! 🙂

This song is going to be awesome! Can I say (well, I am) that the mandolin part is sooo cool!! I love the sound and how you are using it.
