FM Radio…Continues to Stink
Traditional broadcast radio is losing out to online music services and Satellite radio. This is great good news for independent and unsigned bands, as popular music has a smaller foot hold (albeit still large) in the online listening world.
Constantine at Technometrica explains, “Customization is what’s really hurting traditional radio. … The whole U.S. population is starting to prefer the web. The shift is going up the age brackets and down the economic ladder.” Unlike broadcast radio, Satellite Radio is actually well positioned to live out the storm with specialized content and niche subject shows.
To all musical artists, I would highly recommend doing due diligence to look for online radio stations, podcasts, and satellite radio stations that accept music submissions. These will be increasingly become important destinations for music fans everywhere.
