Artificial Buzz and Unsigned Artists

Stereoboard.com has an interesting article about record labels’ use of viral and word-of-mouth marketing programs to generate artificial buzz through PR efforts, and what effects that has on unsigned artists trying to do so without a PR machine.

The story specifically digs into Sandhi Thom’s sudden rise to success, thanks to Quite Great PR’s campaign, and how it relates to unsigned artist David Lockhart, who claims they ripped off his story.

An interesting story about labels using promotional tools once used only by indie artists.  It’s a tough world out there.
